March 2025 - Canon FTb

In anticipation of a vacation abroad later in the year, I wanted to play around with film photography. The mass of photos on our phones are good, but they are so easy to take and accumulate. This felt like a decent excuse for me to get a new toy.

I first tried a Canon FTb, but faffing about with the non standard battery and shutter capping issues made me look for a newer model.

April 2025 - Canon A-1

I landed on the Canon A-1 which has been a dream. Just the right mixture of manual and automatic. That being said, i am super slow to focus, so i have been thankful of the unmoving nature of my wife's native plants. They make for great subjects.

September 2025 - A Flurry of Photos

The whole reason I bought a film camera was for our trip abroad... and it went poorly. I handled getting the film in its own bag to circumvent the airport scanners, loaded the camera in Italy, took photos for a few days until... I went past the 36 photo mark. Then the 37, 38.

For the first time, and the worst time, I had loaded in the film wrong. It had not been capturing photos the entire time. To add insult to injury, our 10 day trip was cut short due to a family emergency and we were out of time. I only had a few minutes to take a handful of poorly framed shots.
